Please nominate yourself to run for a position on GSC’s executive board next year. Below is a list of the positions open and their job descriptions.
Note that being a member of the e-board requires a serious time commitment, and your job may involve more than what’s listed in the following descriptions, but it’s a rewarding experience and we highly recommend you run, regardless of experience.
President
- Plan and run e-board meeting and general meetings
- Bring ideas and co-sponsorship opportunities to club
- final decision maker
- keep other officers on track
- communication with other clubs and office of sustainability
- organize officer training
Vice-President
- Meet with task forces
- Connect task forces to club resources including volunteers, money, tabling materials
- Coordinating/planning events with task force heads
- Presenting task force’s events to general club
- Coordinating campaigns
- PLANNING EARTH DAY
Secretary
- keep minutes at general and executive board meetings
- create meeting recaps to send out on the listserv for members not in attendance at the general meetings
- create the events and reminders for general meetings
- coordinate with the president to create the agenda for general and executive board meetings
- reserving rooms for meetings and other GSC events
- send officers reminders about non-recurring responsibilities and upcoming events
- periodically check the GSC email account
- updating the GSC listserv with new email addresses from meetings and tabling
- keeping track of attendance at general meetings
- send out material and announcements related to sustainability on the GSC listserv
- coordinate with task forces to keep a running list of all upcoming GSC and related sustainability events
Publicity Coordinator
- use tools both online and offline to get the word out to students and the community about GSC meetings and events
- write emails, website updates, Facebook messages and occasional Facebook invitations to publicize events
- manage GSC’s web presence, primarily using Facebook, email and the website
- speak to reporters who are interested in covering GSC events
- advertise events in various newspapers and online
- coordinate tabling on campus to promote meetings and/or events
- there are plenty of opportunities to be innovative and try new, creative methods of publicity
In short, the ultimate goals of the publicity coordinator are to manage the group’s public image and to get people to attend events.
Student Involvement Coordinator
- Organize involvement and plan trips to the GSC organic garden
- Plan volunteer activities surrounding sustainability for GSC members
- Work with other organizations on campus that would like to have GSC member involvement in a sustainability event or campaign
Treasurer
- Being the communication between Gators for a Sustainable Campus and Student Government Finance
- Involves a lot of errand running on campus, creating online SARs, which are money requests. These don’t take very long to create but you have to do them frequently and you must be a good communicator with the other members of GSC to keep on top of who needs money and when.
- You must be organized because these requests are due at least two weeks before the funds are required.
